In Kern County, more than 2,000 children require out-of-home care due to abuse and/or neglect in their homes of origin. More than 400 licensed foster families open their homes and hearts to provide safe havens and act as surrogate parents to foster children from newborn to age eighteen.

Who can become a member?

Anyone can join. We encourage foster parents, relative care providers and non-relative care providers. 

 

 

Who can become a Supporter?

Anyone who cares. Anyone concerned about the welfare of children in this community, we encourage you to become a supporter.

Children who have been abused may display:

 

  • fear of new relationships    
  • anxiety and fears
  • school problems or failure
  • feeling sad or depressed
  • nightmares
  • drug or alcohol abuse
  • sleep problems
  • a poor self image
  • sexual acting out
  • inability to trust or love others
  • aggressive, disruptive, and sometimes

              illegal behavior

  • anger and rage
  • self destructive or self abusive behavior,
  • suicidal thoughts
  • passive, withdrawn or clingy behavior

 

If you think a child is being abused call the Police or the Child Protective Services office nearest you.
